LEGAL AND ETHICAL

Obscene publications Act

Not publishishing any thing seen as obscene eg. imagery, graphics and text. Illegal to publish content that may negatively influence readers.

Link to magazine:

• Including photographs of people clearly under the influence, This mistake could be made due to the nature of underground parties and events i'll be promoting. My audience being 16-25+ showing this content might be seen as obscene due to the laws on drinking age
• Any nudity, my magazine is a local events magazine that follows the culture of street fashion amd lifestyle. Complete Nudity won't be applicable.
• Cultrally diverse mag include range of ethnicities.

Libel Law

Illegal to publish defamatory (harmful) content about a person or publish untrue information.

• The content of my magazine is to promote street wear brands and events. The inteveiws i will be presenting will be friendly gonzo styled inteviews. Promoting local communities and cultures. Negative, defamitry comments will be censored and edited out to not damage anyones image or brand. All infomation will be checked for reliablity so Seven Peaks avoids any legal issues.

Copyright

It gives creators control over their materieral and gives intellectual property for it not to be used without permission.

• My front cover and dps is on the brand District. The creators of the brand will also be the models. Jow Winstanley and Alex Dobbs have given me permission in document form to take portrait photographs of them.
• I need permission for the graphics of District. However this will be the only graphic i need permission for due to the rest being original.

Laws of Contemt

Illegal to publish content based on an on going criminal proceedings/ court case. It is a criminal offence to publish content that poses a risk to justice in proceedings. Prevents magazines from publishing that is too sensitive.

• This article is relevant to my magazine because some of the cultures I am promoting drug and alchohol use is apparent. I would not touch on this particular article, however to combat and reference it I would add a drugs hotline/ prevention services as well as companies like drink aware.

Ethical Issues

Things that are not against the law but could be deemed offensive to a certain group of people.

• My magazine features a range of cultures from music, fashion and lifestyle. It would be discrimative if I did not include images of a range of ethnicities with articles to back it up. To avoid offending anyone. I will censor religious symbols. The events and fashion should not concern or harm any groups that cannot take part. Seven Peaks is dominantly a male magazine, i will not make this effect my models and not make them objectified by male gaze.
